“Descendants 3” is the third installment in Disney Channel’s popular Descendants series, directed by Kenny Ortega. The film continues the adventures of the teenage children of Disney’s most infamous villains, who struggle with balancing their heritage and their desire to lead normal lives. The main characters include Mal (played by Dove Cameron), the daughter of Maleficent; Evie (played by Sofia Carson), the daughter of the Evil Queen; Carlos (played by Cameron Boyce), the son of Cruella de Vil; and Jay (played by Booboo Stewart), the son of Jafar.
In Descendants 3, the story picks up with Mal and her friends returning to the Isle of the Lost to bring more of the villain kids to Auradon, a kingdom where the children of both heroes and villains live together. However, they soon discover a new threat to Auradon’s safety in the form of Hades (played by Cheyenne Jackson), Mal’s estranged father, who plots to escape the Isle and unleash chaos. Meanwhile, Audrey (played by Sarah Jeffery), the daughter of Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip, becomes corrupted by dark magic, setting off a series of dangerous events.
The film is filled with catchy musical numbers, colorful costumes, and dance sequences that are hallmarks of the Descendants series. Descendants 3 also explores themes of identity, redemption, and the importance of making one’s own choices, regardless of one’s lineage. The film was particularly poignant for fans, as it marked the final appearance of Cameron Boyce, who tragically passed away shortly before the movie’s release.
